What is Aion?

Aion is a third-generation blockchain network (defined as blockchain that facilitates cross networks communications) that will enable any private or public sector organization to:

Federate: Send data and value between any Aion-compliant blockchain and Ethereum.
Scale: Provide fast transaction processing and increased data capacity to all Aion blockchains
Spoke: Allow the creation of customized public or private blockchains that maintain interoperability with, other blockchains, but allow publishers to choose governance, consensus mechanisms, issuance, and participation.

How Does Aion work?

Aion is a cross chain protocol. Aion-1, the blockchain of the Aion network, is designed to allow other blockchains to transfer information via their native contracts to entities outside of the main chain. Aion use an interchain framework that allows for messages to be relayed between different blockchains.

Aion uses connecting networks protocols to route the communication between private and public blockchains within the Aion blockchain ecosystem. Bridging protocol is used to route messages between different blockchain participants. Cross-chain transactions are initiated on a source blockchain and get processed and relayed via the bridges under the bridge protocol before they reach the target blockchain. Nodes/participants who facilitate the process receive incentives for performing the work correctly. Apart from blockchains, other external networks such as external database and oracles could also be connected to the network through bridges. Anyone can create a bridge on Aion to any other network as long as the other network is AIion-compatible.

Aion maintains different consensus mechanisms for onchain and cross-chain transactions. Onchain transactions are being processed through a combination of Delegated Proof of Stake and a new neural network inspired algorithm known as proof of intelligence. Cross-chain transactions use a different rule where a transaction is deemed valid if more than two third of validators vote to approve the transaction.
